Historic Vessel given new lease of life for Thames Service
Swale Marine (Electrical) and Dolphin Maritime Software Ltd have recently refitted the historic vessel the Havengore with an updated electronics package to give this fine vessel a new lease of life for service on the Thames, including the new Thames AIS system.
The Havengore was originally brought into service on the Thames in 1956 for the Port of London Authority (PLA) as a hydrographic survey vessel and high profile ceremonial launch. During her long working life with the PLA, she was present at many notable occasions. However her most important role was to carry the coffin of Sir Winston Churchill at his State Funeral in 1965. Havengore was considered to be a great success operationally and such a favourite with her crews, that she stayed in service for nearly 40 years before being put up for sale in 1995. Havengore, now owned by businessman Chris Ryland and operated by Ispire Events, has been extensively restored and is fully certified as a passenger vessel for luxury cruises, dining, meetings and events on the Thames.
The new electronics package for the Havengore includes a Furuno M1934C Navnet Vx2 display with 48 mile 4kW radar, Furuno network sounder, Furuno fluxgate heading sensor, Furuno FAL 150 AIS , Dolphin Maritime Software Ltd Thames AIS system , Furuno intercomb and vhf radio. Full alarms were also fitted to meet the MCA passenger certification requirements.
The Dolphin Maritime Software Ltd Thames AIS system meets the requirements of the new legislation which is being implemented on the Thames and provides easy transmission of the passenger figure over the AIS system, a detailed geographical display of the boat's position and other AIS equipped vessels, reception of emergency messages and much more.
